The O’Brien Veterinary Management Story
With an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University, Greg O’Brien’s path to veterinary practice management was certainly unconventional. Building on his background in operations strategy consulting and private equity investing, Greg leveraged this experience to develop an entrepreneurial venture in veterinary practice management.
The concept behind O’Brien Veterinary Management (OVM) was straightforward—partner with veterinary practices to allow doctors to focus on what they love: practicing veterinary medicine. After conversations with his aunt (a longtime veterinarian) and other veterinary professionals, Greg became convinced that OVM could have a significant, positive impact on the veterinary profession. It was then that OVM was born.
Having moved back to Chicago, Greg and his wife, Emily, co-founded the company and acquired their first practice in 2005. Currently, OVM operates multiple practices in two states and has developed unique partnerships with leading animal hospitals, universities, and veterinary industry businesses. OVM is focused on making a positive impact on the veterinary profession as we continue to grow and partner with veterinary practices.
Meet the O’Brien Veterinary Management Team
Greg O’Brien, Chief Executive Officer
Involved in every aspect of the business, from acquiring veterinary practices to managing hospital operations, Greg O’Brien works diligently to support his veterinary professionals, clients, and partners. His entrepreneurial values are reflected throughout O’Brien Veterinary Management’s culture and principles.
With an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University, Greg earned several years of professional experience at New York Consulting Partners (an operations strategy consulting firm) and later at Lake Pacific Partners in Chicago (a private equity investment firm). His unique combination of experience, skills, and entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish O’Brien Veterinary Management (OVM) with his wife, Emily, in 2005. Greg’s passion remains the same as OVM’s founding principle: to achieve excellence in veterinary practice by allowing doctors to focus on what they love—practicing veterinary medicine.
